Service plans
What a service plan allows, and how to move from one plan to another
A service plan sets the limits of the domains you pay for. The plans on sale, with their prices and limits, are listed on the Pricing page.
Limits
Every plan has two limits:
- Domains — how many domains you can be the subscriber of, i.e. pay for. Creating a domain, or taking a domain’s subscription over, is refused once you’re at the limit. Being a co-owner of domains other users pay for isn’t limited at all, and needs no plan.
- Monthly page views — how many page views each of your domains is allowed per calendar month, counted from the 1st. A domain is allowed exactly that many: it’s the one after the last allowed view that puts the domain over the limit.
A domain over its page view limit isn’t cut off at once: it enters a grace period of a week first. A bigger plan is what brings it back under.
You can see how many domains you pay for, against the number your plan allows, in the Subscription section of your Profile; each domain’s page views this month are shown in the domain list and on the domain’s page.
Paying monthly or yearly
A plan is paid either monthly or yearly, the yearly price being lower per month; the Pricing page lets you switch between the two and shows the saving. The plan is in force for the period you’ve paid for, and renews at its end — Stripe emails you an invoice and a receipt, and you get a reminder shortly before.
Changing your plan
The plans are ordered on a single ladder, from the smallest to the largest, and a move to another plan is either an upgrade or a downgrade. You can move from any plan on sale to any other, in either direction, from the Pricing page.
Upgrading
An upgrade takes effect at once: you pay the difference for what’s left of the current period, and get the new limits the moment you’ve paid. If the payment doesn’t go through, nothing changes — you stay on your current plan, and are told the payment failed.
If your bank asks you to confirm the payment (3D Secure), you’re taken to Stripe’s billing portal, where you confirm the same upgrade and come back to the Pricing page.
Downgrading
A downgrade takes effect at the end of the period you’ve already paid for. Until then you keep the limits you paid for, and nothing is refunded for the rest of the period. Your Profile shows which plan you’re changing to, and from when.
If the smaller plan has no room for all the domains you pay for, you’re told before you agree: once it takes effect, the domains you took on last stop being covered.
Changed your mind? Choose your current plan again on the Pricing page (Keep it, in your Profile), and the scheduled change is called off. Choosing yet another plan replaces the scheduled one.
When you can’t change it
A plan change applies to a subscription you’re paying for and that is in good standing. That leaves out:
- a trial or a complimentary plan — nothing is paid for them, so you buy a plan instead, the same plan included: that’s how you keep it beyond the trial, or beyond the comp;
- a subscription whose payment is failing — you need to settle it in the billing portal first.
Plans that are no longer on sale
A plan may be taken off sale. It then disappears from the Pricing page, and nobody can move to it, but if you already have it, you keep it: it goes on covering your domains and renewing at its price, and you may move off it whenever you like.
Where a plan comes from
Your Profile tells which of these your current plan is:
- Paid — bought through Stripe;
- Trial — your free trial;
- Complimentary — granted by the operators of Comentario Cloud until a given date, free of charge. You get an email a week before it ends; to keep the plan after that, buy it.
Buying a plan while you’re on a trial or a complimentary one replaces it the moment the payment arrives; whatever was left of it is forfeited.
