Payments
Paying for a service plan through Stripe, and what happens when a payment fails
Payments for service plans are handled by Stripe. Comentario never sees your card details.
Buying a plan
Choosing a plan on the Pricing page takes you to Stripe’s checkout. Once you’ve paid, you’re brought back to Comentario, and the plan is in force straight away. Stripe emails you the receipt.
Buying a plan ends a trial or a complimentary plan you may have at the time.
Managing billing
Manage billing, in the Subscription section of your Profile, opens Stripe’s billing portal, where you can:
- update your payment details;
- see and download your invoices;
- change or cancel your plan.
A plan change made in the billing portal follows the same rules as one made on the Pricing page: an upgrade at once, a downgrade at the end of the period. A cancelled plan stays in force until the end of the period you’ve paid for; your Profile tells you so.
Failed payments
If Stripe can’t collect a payment for your subscription, you’re emailed, and the Subscription section of your Profile shows since when the payment has been failing and when Stripe tries again, with an Update payment details button that opens the billing portal.
A failed payment suspends nothing by itself. Your plan runs to the end of the period you’ve already paid for, and your domains go on being served. Should the payment still be missing by then, the plan lapses, and your domains enter their grace period. Once a payment goes through, everything is back to normal.
While a payment is failing, you can neither change your plan nor buy another one: settle the payment in the billing portal first.
Refunds
A refund changes nothing about your plan by itself. If the subscription is cancelled along with it, the plan ends as with any cancellation.
Deleting your account
Deleting your account cancels your subscription at the end of the period you’ve paid for: nothing is refunded for the rest of it. A downgrade scheduled at the time is dropped.
The domains you pay for stop being covered when your account goes. The confirmation lists them; each enters its grace period, and any of its remaining owners may take its subscription over.
